Phil Porter’s beautifully tender yet equally unsettling two-hander about parasocial relationships has been praised across London theatre press, with critics highlighting its delicate writing and moving performances from Abigail Thorn (HBO’s House of the Dragon, Star Wars: Acolyte and creator of Philosophy Tube) and Joe Pitts (Spring Awakening, Almeida; The Da Vinci Code, Mercury Theatre; The Wind and the Rain, Finborough).
Review by Richard Lambert
It’s a rare treat to find a production this technically advanced. Here, presented very slick and polished. Especially in a fringe theatre venue.
The Video is outstanding. From it’s content, to the programming, the cueing, the hardware and the installation is spot on! And then for it to be relevant rather than obtrusive shows a lot of planning and fore-thought.
The sound design is also done beautifully. Again, the content and the additional nuances only add to this superb production.
If there’s one thing I hate though is house lights coming on during a performance. It’s not panto. And these came on so many times totally disjointing what would have otherwise been quite a perfect production. Even if the cast are breaking the fourth wall, unless they’re actually passing out a microphone and expecting you to say something, don’t do it! Please!
The story is interesting if not so original and the cast are brilliant!
This new season of productions coming up at the King’s Head Theatre are on a different level with much to look out for!
