“Hot Ice showcases the best-in-class skating talent with high-tech special effects, nail-biting stunts and mesmerising hand-made costumes by the in-house team at Stageworks Worldwide Productions”
Review by Richard Lambert, 5 Stars
HOT ICE is back, bigger, faster and flashier than ever! With an exciting opening to die for. Thirty International Skaters perform jump after jump: double axels, triple toe loops, triple salchows, arabians, back somersaults – all the while with a wink and a nod to the audience. The girls spiral around, all glamour and eyelashes, with flexibility that’s eye-watering – how do their skates manage to get that far apart!
Think you know what ice skating is? Forget Dancing on Ice, or competitive skating on the television: they’re more aligned to curling! This is professional ice skating for entertainment and is at the next level! 1000’s of rhinestones, ostrich feathers, sexy body suits – there’s something for everyone in this show, all brought to you by professional athletes! XS really is a great title for this show! There is no other Olympic sport that can deliver theatre as live entertainment!
It’s a show in two halves – the 1st half is impressing the audience with elegance, technical ability, speed, passion and performances that entice and engage the audience. All performed to brilliant new compositions and with a video backdrop that perfectly complements the theme. The first half finale is Swan Lake – shirtless male athletes show their power and strength as swans while the females skate and glide with speed and agility. It is all just so beautiful and in great unison. How so many can be together on the ice, moving at such great speed, and yet they don’t crash and collide. It’s a huge tribute to the skaters and the choreographic team.
The 2nd half switches it up even further. With production values to die for, you have to see it to believe it! There are light beams, aerial silks, mist, fog, snow, video, flying, jet flames, sparklers, and fire! All set to fabulous energising compositions and beautifully directed and put together by Amanda Thompson OBE.
The skill and experience of these skaters shines through. Special shout-outs have to be given to Lukasz Kedzierski and Dennis Cheprasov who love performing and have the audience eating out of their hands. Reo Ishizuka has such excellent flow you can spot he’s an Olympian, Olga Ikonnikova and (home-grown) Nadia Craggs are such beautiful performers. Local lad James Horrocks has a fan following, and deservedly so!
There is no other production in the World that is a 9 week season with a large cast of such high calibre international and Olympic figure skaters. This is not a one-off concert, or a theme park show with a couple of international “names” this is the real deal! They’re all here, bedded in for the summer, in Blackpool!
This is the most stunning ice show in the World!
